LAWRENCE ? This year?s incoming class of master of business administration students at Kansas Kniversity will tackle real problems affecting ansas organizations as part of the newly created Kansas Issues Project. The program pairs Kansas businesses and nonprofit organizations with teams of first-year MBA students. KU?s Cathy Shenoy said the program will give businesses organizations the benefit of the MBA students? expertise and give the students hands-on experience. Among the projects, students will help the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center in Lawrence help reduce ?no-show? rates and improve the center?s bottom line; help the Douglas County Food Policy Council in Lawrence create a multi-year analysis tool to gauge the economic impact of the local food economy; and help the Merc Community Market and Deli in Lawrence analyze the feasibility of creating a ?food hub? in northeast Kansas to help small- and mid-sized farms better access to food warehousing and wholesale food distribution networks. Businesses and non-profits interested in joining the program can e-mail cshenoy@ku.edu or call 785-864-7519.
